So I Was Heading North Walking Through Portobello Road Looking For a Ladbroke Grove Barber Shop.
Lucky for me I was also about to interview the men behind BrBr Bullet.
When I first met Benjamin May and Martyn Gayle, first impressions standing at their front door was impressive. I loved their culture portrayed through their chosen décor.
Both Benjamin and Martyn are modest down to earth people and although they don’t take themselves too seriously, the passion for their clients is palpable.
I often wonder when going to houses what they must of looked and felt like 50 years ago? Footsteps that would have walked over the brown coloured flowery designed carpets, the dinners that would have been cooked, the parties the family would have had, the history from one day rolling into the next from year to year.
The magic of Christmas with parents wrapping presents for their children, Santa taking the glory.
Sometimes I get to see this history first hand which absolutely fascinates me but unfortunately, can only imagine the moment. With what Martyn and Benjamin have created, I found myself fully immersed in the barbering history preceding them. An experience fashioned perfectly being able touch the energy surrounding it.
It is what it is with 30 years experience between them, they refuse to stop learning and with Martyn’s strong editorial background which includes work featuring in Arena, Esquire and GQ and with Benjamin knowing exactly how translate client’s wishes into the perfect cut, many could learn from them.
They have created something unique, individual and off-piste with a straight talking no BS attitude to barbering, nurturing the history before them fully immersing their clients in the experience.
Their Barber’s is sharp, they are sharp.
